A Uganda People’s Defence Force [UPDF] soldier serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia [AMISOM] shot a colleague and then turned a gun on himself.
UPDF spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire, told edge.ug on Tuesday that the incident happened at the start of the week at the Base camp in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
He identified the deceased as Capt Edward Ssebagala.
“Our condolences to the family of Capt Edward Ssebagala who shot himself while on mission in Somalia,” Karemire said on Tuesday.
He said Ssebagala shot and injured L/CPl Nabifo Jackie.
“We also wish quick recovery to L/Cpl Nabifo Jackie whom he injured.”
He said investigations have commenced to establish the circumstances behind this fatal incident.
