Cranes beat Ivory Coast, fly to Egypt for Afcon

Faruku Miya scored the lone strike on the day as  Uganda Cranes beat Ivory Coast 1-0 for the first ever victory over the West Africans.

This was during an international friendly match played at the Sheikh Zayed Sport City Stadium on Saturday.

The Uganda Cranes team that has spent three weeks in Abu Dhabi will depart for Egypt on Monday afternoon.

The delegation that also has the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo will leave Abu Dhabi at 4:55 PM (3:55 PM East African Standard Time) on Monday.

‘We have had three wonderful weeks of intense preparations of training in Abu Dhabi where the team played two international build up matches against Turkmenistan and Ivory Coast. It was a camp that has helped a lot in the team preparations ahead of the Total AFCON 2019 Finals in Egypt. We concluded the training on Sunday 16th June 2019  at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Sports Complex. The morale in camp is high as we depart for Egypt on Monday afternoon aboard Egypt Air’ Ahmed Hussein, FUFA Communications Manager remarked.

Uganda Cranes and Turkmenistan played to a goal-less draw at the New York University Stadium during the first international build up match.

In the second match, Uganda Cranes overcame Ivory Coast 1-0 with Faruku Miya scoring the lone strike via a well taken kick from the penalty spot.

The team is expected to arrive at Cairo International Airport at 7:30 PM and will be received by CAF officials as well as the FUFA Advance party that left the country on Saturday, 15th June 2019.

The FUFA advance party was led by the third Vice President, Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi with two Executive Committee members Hamid Juma and Hajji Abdul Ssekabira as well as the FUFA Finance Director Decolas Kiiza. They will also be at the airport to welcome the team.

Meanwhile, FUFA Executive Committee member Rogers Byamukama has also joined the team in Abu Dhabi.

Byamukama is also the chairperson of the Marketing and sponsorship committee and the FUFA Drum tournament organizing committee.
