President Museveni has mourned the passing of Rwenzururu Queen Mother, Christine Biira, who he called a sister.
“I got the sad news of the death of the Rwenzururu Queen Mother, Christine Biira, at Kilembe Hospital,” he said on Wednesday.
“Coming from the Basiita clan, she was my sister.”
Museveni said the late has been a key champion of peace and unity in the Rwenzori region.
“The country will miss her. May her soul rest in peace.”
Bobi Wine mourns
In the same light, Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine also sent his condolences to the grieving Kingdom.
“On this day when we are still celebrating with the people of Bunyoro Kingdom as they commemorate Omukama’s 25th anniversary, it is sad to learn of the passing of a distinguished elder, Mrs. Christine Biira Mukirania, mother of His Majesty the Omusinga of Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere,” he said on Tuesday.
“I condole with the Omusinga and the people of Rwenzururu Kingdom, and pray that God rests her soul in eternal peace.”
Bobi Wine said her death comes more than two years since the Omusinga was stopped from entering his kingdom after the state massacred more than 150 citizens from there.
“We know that these trials and tribulations will soon pass, God being our help.”
