A fuel tanker on Tuesday overturned near Lira Central Police Station in Lira town forcing the station to release all suspects in custody.
The fuel tanker registration number UAS 004Q was ferrying petrol and diesel from Oil Energy fuel station on Soroti road to another station of the same company on Kitgum road.
It failed to negotiate a corner at the main roundabout and overturned in front of Lira Central Police Station.
Scared police officers scampered for their lives while locals gathered to siphon the fuel.
On Wednesday, the tanker exploded burning over 23 motorcycles along Aloi road.
North Kyoga regional police spokesman, David Ongom, told Daily Monitor they were forced to release all prisoners unconditionally to save their lives.
