Human rights officials charged with corruption

UHRC officials leaving anti-corruption court

Senior officials of Uganda Human Rights Commission [UHRC] have Tuesday been charged with corruption and remanded.

They are; Wilfred Asiimwe who is the Acting Director Regional Services, Mr Patrick Mabiiho Nyakaana (Secretary to UHRC), Senior Accountant in charge of Projects, Tadeo Wamala, Nassuna Rebecca (Principle Human Rights officer), Agirembabazi W (PHRO), and Tino Agnes (RHRO).

They appeared before Anti-Corruption Court and were charged with abuse of office, embezzlement and conspiracy to defraud government of Uganda.

This followed a whistle blower’s complaint lodged with Anti-Corruption Unit of State House headed by Lt Col Edith Nakalema.

“We continue to take huge steps,” Nakalema said.
