High Court on Friday gave Democratic Party President Norbert Mao green light to divorce with his wife, Naomi Acheng Odongo.
Justice Godfrey Muyindi of the Family Division of the High Court ruled that the couple could no longer live together hence separating them for good.
In her 2017 suit, Naomi accused Mao of acts of cruelty which she said had broken down their marriage.
The two got married in 2003 and Mao to says they can no longer live together.
Justice Muyindi noted that the couple has been living separately for eight years after Mao absconded from the matrimonial home.
“It is therefore a conclusion that both want divorce and their marriage cannot be redeemed,” the judge ruled.
He ordered Mao to relinquish their piece of land measuring one acre located in Gulu town at the senior quarters and the motorcycle he bought for Naomi.
Mao will now live at their Ntinda Ministers village based house for a period of only three years and then transfer it to their two children Nicholas Hope Mao and Nathan Hale Mao.
The couple agreed to have joint custody of Nathan Hale Rwotber Mao, the youngest child.
