Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] Party President Patrick Amuriat and People’s Government President Kizza Besigye Wednesday led a mobilisation drive of meeting grassroots leaders in Iganga district.
They were accompanied by Ms. Ingrid Turinawe the National Mobilisation and Organization Secretary, Rt. Hon. Phillip Wafula Oguttu the Minister for Presidency in the Peoples Government, Dr. Wakabi Dominic the Deputy Health Secretary, Mulindwa Walid Lubega the National Youth leader, Fred W Mutibwa the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Jinja Central Division Mayor Kirunda Mubarak, Jinja Chairman Maganda Abubaker, among others.
The leaders are being prepared and trained on how to effectively change government to enable return of sanity in the country.
Secret meeting and teargas
FDC and People’s Government officials later addressed a secret meeting of leaders from Iganga at FDC offices without police and security knowledge.
The carefully planned meeting was to avoid interference of FDC and People’s Government activities by security agencies like in previous districts.
Security got to know about the meeting after it had ended and “then they decided to do what they know best: teargas and shoot at the leaders and their supporters”.
All hell broke loose with teargas and bullets being fired unregulated at their supporters by police.
“But the people of Iganga defied the police and stood up to their impunity and arrogance until they backed off,” FDC party said.
Strange armed men
According to Besigye, shadowy men armed with machine guns were very actively working alongside uniformed Police officers in Iganga.
“They tried to disperse people and stop our meeting!”
According to Besigye, it is very difficult to tell a terrorist, robber etc. from such “officially deployed” gunmen.
