Kampala, Uganda – The Emperor of the Government of Japan, through the Ambassador of Japan to Uganda H.E. Kazuaki Kameda, has awarded the founder and Chairman of Roofings Group Sikander Lalani with the Order of the Rising Sun Award in recognition of his long and mutually beneficial business relationship with the People and companies in Japan.
The Order of the Rising Sun is awarded to people who contribute to improving the relationship between Japan and another country. It was approved by the Emperor and the Cabinet of Japan.
Rt. Hon Ruhakana Rugunda, the Prime Minister of Uganda and the Chief Guest congratulated Lalani upon the achievement.
“I am glad that the good work that you are doing in Uganda is also being recognized and awarded by other countries such as Japan. Therefore, this award is not only an honor for you, but also for our country,” he noted.
Ambassador Kameda applauded Lalani for his hard work that has turned Roofings into an exemplary Japan – Uganda business relationship.
“I wish the conferment of this award upon Chairman Lalani could encourage and promote more cases of fruitful business co-operation to take place between Japanese and Ugandan companies,” he said, while conferring the award.
Sikander Lalani thanked the Emperor, the Ambassador and the people of Japan for the honor conferred to him. He revealed that his journey begun with an idea from a Japanese businessman who remains his friend to date.
“Over the years, I have learnt a lot about the Japanese way of doing business. My vision was to manufacture roofings material of Japanese quality in Uganda and could not have done it in a better way than to bring onboard Japanese companies as our longterm raw materials suppliers,” he said.
The event was crowned with dinner and entertainment at Yamasen Japanese restaurant in Muyenga.
