People’s Government President Kizza Besigye, FDC President Patrick Oboi Amuriat and five others have appeared before Rukungiri Chief Magistrate Kule Moses today.
They are accused of organising a Togikwatako rally in Rukungiri town on October 18, 2017 where one person Edson Kakuru was shot and killed.
The state attorney Nabaggala Grace amended the charge sheet to include two charges of violence by stoning and assault of police officers.
Rukungiri FDC chairperson Virginia Kyarugahi has also been added on the charge sheet to bring the total number of suspects to nine.
They are; Kizza Besigye, Patrick Amuriat, Ingrid Turinawe, Darius Tweyambe, Innocent Tashobya, Asiimwe Fred, Akankwatsa Joseph, Nuwagaba Moses and now Virginia Kyarugahi.
The suspects, who first appeared in court on 25th October 2017, are also charged with incitement to violence, malicious damage to property and disobedience of police orders.
The hearing of their case failed to take off after Nabaggala amended the charge sheet to have new charges and another accused person.
Chief Magistrate Kule Moses adjourned the matter for last time to 30th and 31st May 2019 when both parties are expected to appear in court for expeditious hearing.
The accused are represented by lawyers Mark Mwesigye and Ainebyoona Ambrose.
