The Uganda Electoral Commission [EC] has cleared the formation of Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu’s new political party.

“On the 19th of March 2019, pursuant to our efforts over the past several months, the electoral commission has cleared the establishment of our political party, the ‘Alliance for National Transformation’,” said Alice Alaso Asianut, the Convener.

According to Alaso, the next phase is the gazetting of the same, which they expect will be done in the next few weeks.

“With this clearance, we are now in position to make arrangements for the official launch,” she noted.

“The date, Venue and the time of the official launch will be communicated soon,” she added.

The former Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] party president on November 30 2018, said his team was gathering signatures from across the country for the registration of the party.

On December 7, 2018, the electoral commission began the signature verification process.

The commission publically said they intend to have the process wrapped up by December 31, 2018.

Muntu said the unveiling of the party name, logo, policy platform and other instruments of identity for the party would be done only after getting the registration certificate from the electoral commission.

Muntu left FDC to form his own party because of varying political ideologies but he says their agenda is the same—struggle for change.
