A letter purporting to have been written by Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has been circulating on social media declaring support for People Power Guild Presidential candidate, Julius Kateregga.
In the letter dated March 12, 2019, Nawangwe allegedly orders Finance office to support Kateregga’s race with Shs5m because he “agreed to work with administration”.
According to the university Manager of Communication and International Relations, Dr. Muhammad Kiggundu Musoke, the letter is not authentic.
He said some unscrupulous individual (s) forged the VC’s headed paper and signature in what he termed as “chemical” [plot] to smear the candidate.
Others even photoshopped Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s twitter account saying he doesn’t support the “stupid Kateregga”.
A WhatsApp chat of his rival Joshua Mukisa who hails from Lumumba hall leaked showing the tensions among other presidential aspirants.
Mukisa entreats a friend to even call in former Guild President Papa Were for help.
Katerega who hails from Mitchel Hall has his last rally today, Thursday at the Freedom Square and is the favourite to win the guild race.
Musoke vowed to get to the bottom of the matter and have the culprits handled as the university rules require.
At his Wednesday massive Mitchel Hall rally, Kateregga told students he was fighting not for himself alone but for the good of all Makerereans.
A student of Education, Kateregga’s name is on the lips of most university students.
