Gulu Chief Magistrates Court has Monday morning released Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake Butebi who is facing treason charges.
Zaake has been granted Shs5m non-cash bail and ordered to appear with his co-accused on the 14th March 2019.
MPs Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Paul Mwiru and Allan Ssewanyana were among those who attended Zaake’s bail application hearing.
Zaake was arrested last month for jumping police bond and remanded to Gulu central prison for allegedly participating in the stoning of President Museveni’s car.
He was taken to Arua Chief Magistrates Court and charged with escaping from lawful police custody.
He was released on a court bond of Shs50m and his case adjourned to March 22, 2019.
Zaake was quickly re-arrested at Arua Chief Magistrates Court and driven to Gulu Chief Magistrates Court where he was charged with treason, joining the likes of MP Bobi Wine and 33 others.
The case before Chief Magistrate Isaac Kintu will resume on March 14 for mention.
