Speaker of the Hungary National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Laszlo Kover, is in Uganda for a five-day visit.
On Thursday, Kover met Speaker Rebecca Kadaga at Parliament Building in Kampala.
Also present was Gordon Wavamunno, Honorary Counsul of Hungary to Uganda.
Kover was received by Kadaga at parliament and the two held talks aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two institutions.
The Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament hopes for better trade relations following signing of trade agreements between the two countries.
Hon Lazslo Kover calls for closer cooperation between the Members of Parliament but calls for enhanced exchanges of the staff of the two Parliaments who he says stay longer unlike MPs who are elected after a period of time.
“We recognise Uganda’s special refugee policy. It is Hungary’s position that we must support countries that are located to countries with people who are displaced from their areas. We must also ensure that we allow them to return to their homes,” Kover noted.
HE Kover also said Hungary is the number one country in terms of research programmes funded by the European Union [EU] and thinks these programmes can be adapted to other countries for transfer of knowledge.
