The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has asked the Inspector General of Police, Okoth Ochola, to promote Sergeant Esther Namaganda who was assaulted by UPDF soldiers on Sunday.
Kadaga was responding to women activists who petitioned her over Uganda’s ambassador to Burundi Maj Gen Matayo Kyaligonza and the Miss Curvy Beauty Contest on Monday.
Kadaga condemned the actions of Maj. Gen. Kyaligonza and his bodyguards saying it is unacceptable.
She also called on the IGP Ochola to promote Traffic officer Sgt. Esther Namaganda for insisting on doing her job according to the Law.
Earlier, Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine criticised Kyaligonza and his bodyguards for roughing up a police officer.
Kyaligonza who doubles as the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) vice-chairperson for western region, is known for a career of impunity.
His military police officers L/CPL Peter Bushindiki and Pte John Robert Okurut, were arrested.
“We are fighting so that you are not harassed by your superiors for doing your job. We are fighting to put an end to this kind of impunity!” Bobi Wine said.
Civil Society Organisations [CSOs] have issued a statement calling upon Kyaligonza to take responsibility and resign.
