MP Zaake

Mityana Municipality MP Hon. Francis Zaake Butebi spent Thursday night in Central Police Station [CPS] cell for allegedly skipping police bond.

According to his Kyadondo East counterpart Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, Zaake was grabbed Thursday evening at 9:00pm while in traffic jam and taken into custody at the Central Police Station in Kampala.

“He tells me that it is not clear why he has been arrested in such an indignified manner, but he suspects they have arrested him over the Arua incidents where he was tortured to near death,” Bobi Wien said.

He added: “As we all recall, the government alleged that the man who could barely see or walk escaped from custody!”

Bobi said he talked with Zaake and assured him of support and comradeship, including taking measures to enable him secure his freedom at the earliest.

According the Director of Criminal Investigations (CID), Grace Akullo, Zaake who was charged with treason and unlawful escape from police custody skipped bond.

He will be taken back to Gulu Chief Magistrates Court where alongside 33 suspects arrested for stoning President Museveni’s convoy on August 13, during the Arua Municipality by-election campaigns, are being tried.

Gravity shooting incident

Zaake’s arrest came after he had helped rush rapper Gravity Omutujju to Lubaga hospital.

Zaake says he got a call from one promoter Nick after Gravity had been shot within Mityana District.

“The first thing that crossed my mind was transporting him to Kampala where in my opinion, has the best health facilities, this was such a painful decision to make because one could easily die in transit, that aside, what could we do anyway? There is no trust in Government Hospitals,” Zaake said.

“I settled for calling an ambulance that transported him to Lubaga Hospital in Kampala. But still, the golden question is that why doesn’t Government heavily invest in the health sector in order to reinforce Regional Referral Hospitals to effectively treat Ugandans?!”

Zaake said there is absolutely no trust in Government Health facilities not for lack of Physicians, but rather the absence of sundries and enough and/or advanced equipment to use in these Hospitals.

“It is reported that, Gravity Omutujju twisted his body to dodge the bullets so he didn’t sustain serious injuries. The bullets only injured the exterior of his abdomen.”
