A court in Gulu town has sent Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake, on remand for allegedly participating in the stoning of President Museveni’s car.
Zaake was arrested in Kampala on Thursday night for skipping police bond.
He was taken to Arua Chief Magistrates Court and charged with escaping from lawful police custody.
He was released on a court bond of Shs50m and his case adjourned to March 22, 2019.
Zaake was quickly re-arrested at Arua Chief Magistrates Court moments after he had been released on bail.
He was driven to Gulu Chief Magistrates Court where he was charged with treason for allegedly taking part in the stoning of Museveni’s car during the August 2018 Arua town fracas.
Zaake was not allowed to take plea because treason is a capital offence.
Chief Magistrate Isaac Kintu remanded him to Gulu Central Prison until March 14 when he will be returned to court for further mention of the case.
He joins 35 others including Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, who are on trial for treason.
