Kabaka slims cabinet, names new speaker

The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has reduced his cabinet from 23 to 14 ministers in a reshuffle.

The reshuffle announced by the Kabaka’s Principal Private Secretary Fred Mpanga, was released on Friday.

Kabaka appointed Patrick Mugumbule as the new Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko.

Mugumbule replaces a bedridden Nelson Kawalya while Nelson Lwasa remains Deputy Speaker of the Lukiiko.

Charles Peter Mayiga as Katikkiro remains the Buganda Katikkiro or prime minister.

Ambassador Emmanuel Sendawula has been sacked as first deputy Katikkiro and replaced with Hajji Twaha Kawaase.

Kawaase has been serving as Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education.

He will also double as Minister in charge of Administration and Information Communication and Technology (ICT)/Innovation.

Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa who has been serving as the Kingdom’s Finance Minister is now the Second Deputy Katikkiro.

Christopher Bwanika is the Kingdom’s Attorney General. Fred Mpanga is appointed Minister in- charge of special assignments.

Lawyer Apollo Nelson Makubuya lost his position as third deputy Katikkiro and was appointed Minister in charge of special assignments.
