High Court in Kampala has refused to release on bail former Tony Kipoi Nsubuga Member of Parliament for Bubulo East in Bududa District.
Kipoi was supposed to appear before judge Jane Frances Abodo on Monday but did not show up.
He also did not produce any communication from the army court-martial, where he was initially charged.
Kipoi, who is currently on remand at the Makindye Military Prison, says government is witch-hunting him because over “how a young man like him could become an MP without the usual patronage”.
In his plea, Kipoi maintained that he was being detained illegally at the military facility and was also constitutionally entitled to bail.
Justice Abodo dismissed Kipoi’s application on grounds that he is charged with grave offences related to security.
Kipoi was re-arrested in Botswana in 2014 and extradited to Uganda last year.
