Farmer cuts Reverend’s arm for stealing matooke

A man of God from Kagamba Sub county in Rakai district nearly lost his left army on Thursday when a farmer caught him stealing his matooke.

Daily Monitor reports that Reverend Zadoch Bahwera of Kyaruyimuka Church of Uganda had his left arm cut by a farmer who caught him red-handed in his plantation at Bukenke village, Kagamba sub county.

Joseph Rukuuta intended to stop Bahwera from taking the matooke on a motorcycle. Bahwera was arrested and detained at Kyaluyimuka Police post.

His condition worsened upon which officers rushed him to Rakai General Hospital.

Bahwera has a wife and four children and it is believed he was struggling to get them what to feed on.

According to his flock, the church receives a minimum of 20 believers every Sunday. It’s only on public holidays when the number of believers increases to atleast 50 people.

Ben Nuwamanya, the Rakai District Police Commander, told Monitor that Bahwera will be handled according to the law and if proved guilty, the case will proceed.

Canon Nkambo Mugerwa who heads the Rakai archdeaconry told the newspaper that Bahwera was recently reported to be mentally unstable and such an act could have come as a result of the disability.
