After presiding over the 33rd NRM Liberation Day celebrations in West Budama, Tororo, First Lady Janet Museveni and President Museveni went to Rubongi Sub-county to pay tribute to their comrade, Late Ochwo Obonyo.
Mzee Obonyo, 85, died recently and was buried three days ago.
In 1971, Obonyo joined NRA struggle against bad leadership, helping Museveni recruit fighters in Eastern Uganda.
In 1986, after the NRM took power, he opted to continue with farming.
He became a role model farmer in Tororo.
He grew mangoes and coffee extensively, disapproving claims by some that the soil in Budama was barren.
“He proved that the soil was not a problem but our mindsets,” Museveni said.
The President also saluted Obonyo for being a responsible parent and an advocate of education.
“All his 15 children are well educated. I urge the residents to emulate him. May his soul rest in peace.”
