Makerere University has demoted its long-serving Public Relations Officer, Rita Namisango.
The university appointed Dr Mohammed Kiggundu Musoke as the acting communication and interpersonal relations.
Musoke is the former Makerere University Academic Staff Association [MUASA] chairman.
The new PRO Musoke is also a senior lecturer in the department of Humanities and Education.
Musoke’s appointment meant merging of the PR office with an additional international relations unit.
Musoke will now be Namisango’s boss in the PR department. She has been demoted from the main role of the university publicist.
In April 2018, Namisango spoke out against the students strike insisting the university leadership was listening to the raised grievances.
She practically defended Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe who is accused of failing to respond to students and staff grievances.
She is blamed for the continuing deterioration of the university image.
