FDC activist Jasper starts kidney treatment in Turkey

Jasper starts treatment

Rukungiri born Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] activist, Jasper Lahisi Natukunda, has started receiving specialised treatment in Turkey.

Kizza Besigye’s aide, Ronald Muhinda, told edge.ug on Monday that Jasper Lahisi, one of the best youth activists to have come out of Kigezi, is currently undergoing kidney treatment.

Muhinda shared pictures showing Jasper being cared for by nurses and entering a scan at NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital, the first Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Turkey, where he is also being treated for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Jasper was arrested in 2012, detained at Rukungiri Police Station where he was tortured and his kidney reportedly destroyed.

He has been receiving private treatment in Uganda until he was given a referral in Turkey for specialised treatment and attention.

In November 2017, Besigye visited Victoria Hospital in Bukoto where Jasper was admitted, saying the political activist’s urinary system was badly damaged from Police torture at Rukungiri Police Station during 2011 walk-2-work demos.

Lahisi has already had three operations to manage the damage he suffered.

Luckily, an NGO, African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV) made a significant contribution to his treatment.

ACTV could no longer meet the costs of the impending operation and Lahisi was really desperate when Besigye visited him.

Last year, FDC party President Patrick Amuriat and Buhweju County MP Hon Mwijukye Francis led a drive to wash cars at “Save Jasper Car wash” at Acacia Car Wash in Kololo.

The car wash aimed to raise at least Shs90m. According to Muhinda, they only raised Shs64m and because his situation was worsening, Jasper had to leave with less money.

“He went on to Turkey last week on January 16, 2019. He still has a balance of Shs24m. It’s what we are looking for,” Muhinda told edge.ug.

He said Jasper safely arrived in capital Istanbul where he will be treated for a month.

“But he still needs Shs24m to be able to finish treatment, so he can come back and join the struggle if possible. For further help, please contact Ingrid Turinawe on 0706206432. Jasper needs your help, support and prayers.”

Jasper’s fundraising drive is headed by Elder Atanansi Rutaro, the former LCV Chairperson Rukungiri and Byamugyisha Moses, former FDC Party President Aspirant.
