Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli has revealed that he taps phone calls of his officials just to ensure a good working relationship between them.
Magufuli made the revelation on Wednesday while swearing in new cabinet members, permanent secretaries and other government officials.
The bulldozer said he monitors phone conversations and text messages of government appointees because he wants them to improve their working relationship.
He explained that such was behind the appointment of Dr Zainab Chaula as new permanent secretary ministry of Health and Ummy Mwalimu, the minister of Health.
According to The Citizen Tanzania, Mwalimu was the minister of Health while Chaula has been serving as deputy permanent secretary in local government and regional administrations in charge of health.
“When I tracked the telephone message between Mwalimu and Chaula, I noticed a strain in their working relationship. So to make their quarrels stop, I decided to place them under the same ministry,” Magufuli is quoted by The Citizen as saying.
Magufuli told the new appointees to take care because they will face more trials during their work
“I’m watching you. These quarrels must stop,” he warned.
In a mini-reshuffle Tuesday, Magufuli moved Angellalah Kairuki from minister of Mining to Prime Minister’s Office [investment].
He promoted Dotto Bitejo from deputy to full minister of Mining. Dr Mpoki Ulisubisya who was Health PS was appointed ambassador.
