Museveni delivers New Year message today

President Yoweri Museveni will today address the nation as Uganda says farewell to the year 2018 and welcomes the New Year 2019.

“I will deliver my New Year message, 31st December, starting 7pm. Tune in!” the president said.

The live broadcast will be aired on major televisions and radios across the country.

In his statement on security ahead of festive season, Museveni lauded security forces for launching a limited counter-offensive against the criminals that have been robbing and terrorizing some parts of the country.

“We are in the process of developing the electronic means and other means of fighting crime,” he said.

Museveni noted that even with the old means of vigilance by the population, fast response by the police and other security agencies, a lot has been achieved in the war against crime.

“We defeated rural based terrorism which was much more serious. This urban terrorism and crime is much easier to defeat.”

He added: “It is just a question of three elements: vigilance of the people, quick response of the Police and technology. With technology, things will be much simpler,” he noted.

The president is expected to highlight similar achievements in his New Year message as well as the social, economic and political feats that ruled 2018.
