Police bans tyre burning in New Year traffic guidelines

Uganda Police Force has issued traffic guidelines to be followed as Ugandans prepare to welcome the New Year 2019.

SSP Norman Musinga, Kampala Traffic Commander, said most revellers are expected to lounge in the city Kampala as they wait for a New Year 2019 with fireworks.

Places where fireworks will be displayed include; Namboole Stadium, Hotel Africana, Serena Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, Pearl of Africa Hotel, Bat Valley, Lubiri, Munyonyo, Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, Bukalango in Wakiso and other places of Worship such as Christ The King, All Saints Cathedral Nakasero.

Motorists with stickers will access Sheraton hotel through Ternan Avenue, there will be no parking at Nile Avenue, Speke Road, Tenran Avenue, Sezibwa Road, Kintu Road, UBC Roundabout and High Court Roundabout.

Any motor vehicle found in these places will be towed away. There is restricted access to Kololo ceremonial grounds, Namboole national stadium and Lubiri.

“The public is encouraged to use public transport to reduce congestion,” he said.

The public is also warned against burning tyres in roads which will affect traffic flow, Musinga said.
