Uganda’s reigning queen Quiin Abenakyo emerges 2nd runner-up in popular vote at Miss World contest and is crowned Miss Africa.
Mexico’s Vanessa Ponce is crowned Miss World 2018.
Miss Uganda Abenakyo had already made history by finishing among the top 5.
Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah was among the first people to congratulate Abenakyo: “Heartiest congratulations to Miss World Africa, Uganda’s Quiin Abenakyo for making history and lifting Uganda’s flag highest Thank you for making us all so very proud.”
Although she missed out on this year’s top crown, with Mexico’s Vanessa Ponce taking it, Abenakyo won the continental crown by beating Mauritius’ Murielle Ravina to become “Miss World Africa”.
Ponce became the first Mexican to win Miss World as announced Saturday at Sanya City Arena in China.
Thailand’s Nicolene Limsnukan placed second, finishing the 68th edition of the world beauty contest as second runner-up.
Uganda, Jamaica and Belarus made the rest of the Top 5 list.
