‘Veronic’s Wish’ wins best feature film, Shs10m award

The grand finale of the Uganda Film festival 2018 organised by Uganda Communications Commission [UCC] went underway at Kampala Serena hotel on Friday night.

The festival, according to UCC, is to recognise Ugandan talent in the film industry.

Various movies have been showing this week during the Uganda Film Festival 2018.

The Uganda Film Festival Award Gala is Uganda’s equivalent of the “Oscars”.

It’s glitz and glamour, it’s about film & Uganda’s local content.

Winners

“Idi Amin’s Boat” emerged winner of the student film category. The director walked away with Shs3m cash award, a certificate and a pack from Star Times.

They were presented by Mr. Henry Nsereko, CEO P.roline Film Academy.

The Best Short Film is “KYENVU” taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Mr. Nkambo Robert, Director Media Vision Academy.

The Best Animation is “CHEBET” taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Ms Sarah Arapta, Managing Director CITI Bank.

The Best East African Film is “WORLD TOFOUTI” taking home a Shs3m cash Award.

The Best African Film is “SOMETIMES IN YESTERDAY” taking home a Shs3m cash Award.

The winner of Best Actor in a TV Drama is EJULE PAUL taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Mr. Joe Kigozi, Head Strategy Next Media.

The winner of Best Actress in TV Drama is NANTAMBI JULIET taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Mr. Kenneth Oduka, Marketing Manager Broadcast and Digital Media Vision Group.

The Best TV Drama is “MISTAKES GALS DO” taking home a Shs5m cash Award presented by Mr. Cedric Babu, Head Corporate Affairs UBC.

The Best Costume & Production Design is VERONIC’s WISH taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Brian Serunyigo, National Promotions & Events Manager East African Breweries.

The Best Editing & Post Production is “CHEBET” taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Sister Dipio a former UFF Judge.

The Best Supporting Actor in Film is SIMON BASE KALEMA taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Mr. John Kow Abakah, CEO Prudential Assurance.

The Best Supporting Actress in Film is STELLA NANTUMBWE taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Mr. Roger Sekaziga, CEO ROKE TELKOM and Award collected by Matt Bish.


The Best Actor in Film is RAYMOND RUSHABIIRO taking home a Shs5m cash Award.


The Best Actress in Film is NISHA KALEMA taking home a Shsm cash Award presented by Mr. Val Okecho on behalf of Win Vanhelleputte, CEO MTN Uganda.

The film with the Best Screen Play is VERONIC’s WISH taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Mr. Aldrine Nsubuga, Vice President StarTimes Uganda.

The Best Actor in Film is RAYMOND RUSHABIIRO taking home a Shs5m cash Award.

The Best Actress in Film is NISHA KALEMA taking home a Shsm cash Award presented by Mr. Val Okecho on behalf of Win Vanhelleputte, CEO MTN Uganda.

The film with the Best Screen Play is VERONIC’s WISH taking home a Shs3m cash Award presented by Mr. Aldrine Nsubuga, Vice President StarTimes Uganda.

The Winner of the Viewer’s Choice Award is “94 TERROR” taking home a Shs5m cash Award presented by Mr. Charles Hamya the General Manager Multichoice (U) Limited.

Special recognition for Lifetime Achievement Award goes to ABBEY MUKIIBI. Citation by Julianne Muheirwe the Director for Industry Affairs and Content development at UCC.

The Best Feature Film for 2018 is VERONIC’s WISH taking home a Shs10m cash Award presented by the UCC Executive Director Eng. Godfrey Mutabazi.


The Best Film Director 2018 is REHEMA NANFUKA OF VERONIC’s WISH taking home a Shs20m cash Award.

The Award is presented by the Guest of Honour, Minister for ICT & National Guidance Hon. Aidah Nantaba.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony Minister of State for ICT, Aidah Nantaba, said: “I have watched Kansiime Anne, watched Idringi – the man from Ombokolo. Recently, I travelled and a friend asked whether Uganda is where Kansiime comes from. I felt very proud.”
