Iganga accident: man nearly lynched stealing from the dead

A man was nearly killed after being found stealing from one of the seven people who died while 10 others were hospitalised when their taxi collided with a coaster vehicle at Namasoga village along the Iganga-Jinja highway.

The Wednesday accident occurred when the taxi registration number UAV 157E that was heading to Jinja from Iganga collided with the coaster registration number UAT 805F.

Bodies of the deceased fell on the tarmac after the entire roof top of the taxi was blown off, according to the officer in charge traffic, Rogers Ndenge.

The deceased were identified as Akamada Maganda, Musa Kange, Falidi Matende, John Baliruno, Badru Isabirye, driver of the taxi and Abdalah Bogere, the driver of the coaster.

The injured were identified as Gerald Lugolole, Joel Mutukula, Kulusumu Issa, Asha Naigaga, Saleh Kaziba, Francis Mayende, Kanani Yona, Mukanza Mudasiru and are currently admitted at Iganga and Jinja hospitals.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man narrowly survived being lynched after he was caught stealing money from a dead passenger.

Locals responded by throwing bricks and beating up Yasin Nyombi using sticks.
