Uganda’s marathoners Joshua Cheptegei and Stella Chesang have just won gold in the FNB Durban 10km City Run.
The duo is also Commonwealth Games Champions. The race also saw a European record while Mercyline Chelangat won silver in the women race.
Cheptegei on Sunday beat his last year’s record when he finished within 27 minutes and 16 seconds – the fastest 10km ever run on South African soil.
Swiss Julien Wanders finished 16 seconds behind Cheptegei in a time of 27:32 while Moses Koech of Kenya finished third in 27:46.
Stella Chesang took the women’s race at the City Surf Run in Durban, clocking 31:12 minutes to break the South Africa’s 10km all-comers record.
Mercyline Chelangat in 31:14 to 31:33 (PB) made it a double win for Uganda with Irvette van Zyl third in a PB of 32:06.
