Ykee Benda wins Afrimma award in Dallas, Texas

Uganda’s upcoming singer Ykee Benda, real name Wycliffe Tugume, is the winner of African Muzik Magazine Awards [Afrimma] 2018.

Known for ‘playing’ farmer in Sheebah’s “Farmer”, Benda sings lots of genres including pop, dance-hall, RnB, soul and so much more.

Benda was shortlisted among the African musicians to perform at the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

Over the weekend, he emerged winner of the “Best Newcomer” category at the awards held in Dallas, Texas.

He beat African artistes like Mayorkun [Nigeria], Distruction Boyz [South Africa] and Afro B [Ivory Coast], among others.

He wrote on social media: “UGANDA 🇺We did it…Congrats my brother Eddy Kenzo naye gwe oba wabimanyila 😂– BEST MALE EAST AFRICA (AFRIMMA 2018)

BET award winner Eddy Kenzo beat Gagamel big boss, Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool, Tanzanian and Kenyan singers; Diamond Platnumz, Sauti Sol and Ali Kiba, to take home the “Best Male East Africa” award.

Other Ugandan artistes who were nominated but never won include; Juliana Kanyomozi, Leyla Kayondo, Sheebah Karungi, and Rema Namakula.

This year’s event took place on Sunday October 7 at the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas.
