Five perish in Mpigi accident


Five people have died and one other sustained injuries in an accident that happened in Mpigi district Saturday.

The incident happened at Kibukuta swamp near Buwama Town Council involving three vehicles.

A trailer Reg No UBA 285Z/UAF 554J carrying cement from Kampala headed to Mbarara crashed with a sand truck Reg No UBB 273E from Lwera wetland and a Canter Reg No UAG 272U carrying scrap from Nyendo town.

Richard Wabwire, the officer in charge of traffic police at Buwama Police Station, told Daily Monitor the accident was a result of reckless driving.

He said a one Kasoma (Canter driver) and resident of Kawempe in Wakiso District and his turn man Phillip Kasule Luzingo, a resident of Nyendo in Masaka district, the Trailer’s driver called Brian, a resident of Mbarara, his turn man Bogere and a sand track turn man whose name wasn’t yet identified all died on spot.

Ssuubi Kamya, the survivor (sand truck driver) was taken to Buwama Health Center IV for treatment.

The bodies were taken to Gombe Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
