State minister for Internal Affairs Obiga Kania told parliament on Thursday that security is interrogating a suspect in the murder of maverick police officer, Muhammad Kirumira.
Kirumira was murdered alongside Resty Nalinya on September 8, 2018 in Bulenga on his way home.
The suspect in custody was arrested on Monday night as he attempted to flee after Kirumira’s family members became suspicious and asked to know his details, because he kept close tabs on them yet he was a stranger.
He did not have any identification documents apart from a police bond letter, showing that he was released from Kisenyi Police Post on undisclosed crime. The bond document had only one name.
“The police, are investigating the murder of the two, as a criminal act to establish the motive and apprehend those responsible,” Kania told the house.
He said no arrests have so far been made, but some suspects are been questioned by the investigating team.
“Police appeals to the public and any eye witnesses who may have useful information to pass it over to the nearest security forces especially the CID who are leading the investigations. All this information will be analysed for the next appropriate action.”
He said cartridges of the bullets used, blood samples and head of projectiles were recovered from the crime scene as exhibits and are being examined.
