Kirumira burial: police spokesman survives lynching, speeds away

Police spokesperson Kayima speeding away as mourners move to lynch him

A rare picture has emerged showing police spokesman Emilian Kayima speeding away from angry mourners on Sunday.

The ugly episode happened in Mpambirwe village Mpigi during the burial of slain police chief Muhammad Kirumira.

It was on the same occasion that people stoned Internal Affairs minister Jeje Odongo.

While mourners had reluctantly accepted Jeje to join them, they were incensed when police spokesperson Emilian Kayima made an appearance.

They then demanded all police officers leave including those guarding the Internal Affairs minister.

Police forced by angry mourners to retreat

Police officers were stoned and forced to leave the venue. Mourners pelted stones at Jeje Odongo.

Realising the situation had turned chaotic; Kayima showed the mourners a clean pair of heels, racing away like his life depended on it.

The picture shows a civilian clearing the way for Kayima as he run off the scene on foot, echoing those old muchaka-muchaka days.
