Kayihura back in army court for bail

The former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, has returned to Makindye General Court Martial for bail application.

He was last week charged with failure to protect war material. Between 2010 and 2018, he allowed issue of arms to unauthorised persons including Boda Boda 2010 led by Abdallah Kitata.

Gen. Kayihura was also charged with aiding or abetting kidnapping by commission, repatriating Rwandan exiles and refugees and Ugandan citizens to Rwanda between 2012 and 2016.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges read to him by Court Martial chairman Lt Gen Andrew Gutti.

Kayihura’s lawyers applied for bail but were asked to put in writing their bail application to be considered on 28th August 2018.

He was remanded back to Makindye military barracks.

Kayihura was arrested from his farmhouse in Kashagama in Lyantonde district on June 13, 2018.
