Military takes over Kampala as Bobi Wine goes to court

Officers from military police, regular police and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have taken over Kampala ahead of Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, appearance in General Court Martial.

Patrol military vehicles and soldiers were seen at volatile spots in the city like City Square, Busega junction, Katwe Division Police headquarters and at Kaleerwe-Gayaza Road junction.

Commanders from Special Forces Command (SFC) and Military police are in charge of the operations.

They are reportedly anticipating riots like those that swept the city on Monday.

Some sections of the public are opposed to Bobi Wine’s appearance in an army court yet he is a civilian,

Security thus poured over 2000 personnel in the city to prepare for such eventualities.

Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima, had earlier released a statement on threats of violence on social media, saying some elements were planning to cause chaos in the city.

Bobi Wine was arrested with MPs like Francis Zaake, Gerald Karuhanga, Paul Mwiru, Ex-MP Michael Mabike and Kassiano Wadri, who have since been charged with treason in Gulu town.
