Mbale Municipality Member of Parliament Jack Wamanga Wamai says after the assassination of former Arua MP Ibrahim Abiriga, the next target is the Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi.
“The constitution says we can have peaceful elections. Why the killings?” he wondered during plenary presided over by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
Wamanga says that Mr. Yasin Kawuma [Bobi’s dirver] was allegedly killed by a stray bullet.
“If it was stray bullet, then who was it targeting? We need to note that Mr. Yasin has left 11 orphans.”
He added: “After the death of Hon. Abiriga, the message was the next target is Hon. Kyagulanyi. Here we see the driver of Hon. Kyagulanyi being killed. The government should seriously investigate this issue.”
Hon. Angura Fredrick MP Tororo county south suggested that Ugandans be responsible people and do not make opponents their enemies.
Hon. Ababiku Jesca says she condemns all the acts (blocking the convoy, stoning and attacking the convoy and killing of people) in Arua because they are all terrible acts.
Hon. Aza Tom advises MPs to stop inciting violence during campaigns.
He says their role in campaigning for their colleagues is simple; they should only say “oyeeee” and avoid violence because it’s not necessary
Hon. Mukoda Julie suggests people should be given time to heal from what has happened before the elections.
“In the same area Hon. Abiriga died and now more people have died.”
Hon. Kaluya Andrew says some news is making rounds that one of the arrested MPs might have shot Mr. Yasin which is wrong.
“We should put up a committee to investigate these issues. Perhaps the Human Rights Committee.”
Hon. Tonny Ayoo called upon the state to help the widow and orphans of the Late Mr. Yasin.
He condemned the killing and calls upon Ugandans to wake up and know that they die and leaders remain. He said Parliament should find a way of having violence free elections.
