Police has deployed heavily in Sheema municipality in western Uganda and Bugiri municipality in Eastern Uganda to secure today, Friday’s parliamentary elections.

In Bugiri, the race is between Asuman Basalirwa of Jeema party, John Francis Oketcho of the ruling NRM party and Eunice Namatende of opposition FDC party.

Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has been clashing with security forces to secure the election for Basalirwa.

Former presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye, and FDC party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi campaigned for Namatende who is sure to win the election.

President Museveni campaigned for Oketcho, reminding Bugiri that they will lose out if they send people who won’t work with government.

Most polling stations in Bugiri Municipality have registered an early morning high turn up of voters.

Electoral materials are reported to have been delivered in most electoral areas on time.

Amuriat wishes FDC candidates goodluck

In a message on Thursday, Amuriat said the party distinguished itself as a nonviolent and yet fearless group of people who can be trusted.

“In this election even before the actual voting we as a party have gained enormously by demonstrating to the country that there is urgency in causing change through popular people’s struggle. It is this struggle that FDC expects you to advance irrespective of the outcome of the vote.”

He added: “As you make final touches on how to protect our votes against a predatory system which does not believe in fair elections, I on behalf of the FDC leadership wish you success in the elections.”

He said the FDC will be available across the entire electoral areas to give assistance to you especially on vote protection.

“I call on our voter protection teams to commence movement to their constituencies of responsibility to acclimatize with the environment early enough and to avoid being locked out.”
