The electoral commission has cancelled the Village Council I election for Makamba Zone, Rubaga Division, Kampala over malpractice.
According to police, former Rubaga North MP Singh Katongole was involved in ballot stuffing and registering ghost voters from his home.
Katongole, a former deputy treasurer of the ruling (NRM) party, was vying with Proscovia Lukwago for the seat.
On Tuesday, he was nearly lynched by voters of Makamba Zone, Lungujja parish who accused him of trying to change the voters register and hire non-residents to vote.
Katongole was in 2011 ejected from Parliament following a petition by Moses Kasibante over electoral malpractices.
Katongole has been in the new over disagreements with members of the Asian Community ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Uganda.
The election was plagued by scuffles, protests over fake voters registers, allegations of ghost voters, among others.
