Central African Republic overcame Uganda Cranes 1-0 at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché in Niamey on Wednesday night under floodlights.

Ralph Kottoy scored the lone goal on the night towards the end of the first half.

Uganda Cranes rallied back gallantly but fell short until the final whistle.

There were changes for the team as the game progressed.

William Luwagga Kizito and Milton Karisa became the first two players to be introduced in the 54th minute during a double substitution for Faruku Miya and Yunus Sentamu respectively.

Then Isaac Muleme came on for Allan “Dancing Rasta” Kateregga in the 61st minute before striker Edrisa Lubega replaced Aucho Khalid barely three minutes left on the clock.

Uganda will play Niger on Saturday in the final build up match.

Niger had earlier drawn 3 all with Central African Republic during the first game.

How Uganda Cranes lined up:

Jamal Salim (G.K), Denis Iguma, Joseph Ochaya, Murushid Jjuuko, Timothy Awanyi, Khalid Aucho (87’ Edrisa Lubega), Hassan Wasswa Mawanda (Captain), Faruku Miya (54’ William Luwagga Kizito), Yunus Sentamu (54’ Milton Karisa), Emmanuel Okwi, Allan Kateregga (61’ Isaac Muleme)

Subs Not Used:

Charles Lukwago (G.K), Allan Kyambadde, Taddeo Lwanga, Moses Opondo, Bevis Mugabi

Sebestien Desabre (Head coach) said: “We played and fought well during the match. I saw the effort of fighting spirit from all the players. Unfortunately, it was just one mistake that cost us. We shall plan ahead for the next match and we have to improve.”

Hassan Wasswa Mawanda (Captain) said the players gave their all but did not get the result we all desired.

“It is a wakeup call for us and the opportunity to rectify our mistakes early enough before the AFCON 2019 qualifier against Tanzania. We need to regroup so soon and clean the mistakes before taking on Niger on Saturday.”
