Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] Woman Candidate for Rukungiri District Betty Muzanira has been nominated to run for the parliamentary seat.
Muzanira was nominated on Wednesday morning by the District Registrar Umar Kiyimba.
She was escorted by former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Kyaddondo East MP Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, leader of the Opposition in Parliament Winfred Kizza among other opposition members.
Electoral commissioner Steven Tashobya is overseeing the nomination exercise that will cover seven contestants who picked nomination forms for the Rukungiri by-election set for May 31, 2018.
The by-election follows the nullification of NRM’s Winfred Masiko by Court of Appeal on March 22, 2018.
Other candidates who had picked nomination forms include; Elizabeth Kyoshaba, Sheila Atukunda Kirebete, Fabith Kukundakwe of Peoples’ progressive party, former Rukungiri woman MP Prisca Sezi Mbaguta and Elizabeth Rwakitonera.
After being nominated, Muzanira and her party colleagues held a procession in Rukungiri town putting it on edge.
