Lawyer Paul Wanyoto is currently under investigation for conniving with former Kampala Metropolitan South Regional Police Commander Siraj Bakaleke and four other police officers to rob Koreans.

The incident that happened last month saw Wanyoto, Bakaleke and four other police officers extort of Shs1.4bn from two South Korean Nationals.

According to police records, the two South Koreans, Park Seunghoon and Jang Shingu Un were looking for gold amounting to USD 1.5 million but were arrested from Acacia Mall in Kampala where they had gone to meet lawyer Wanyoto.

They were later detained at Katwe Police Station and a plot hatched to deport them quickly.

Four Police officers including Isaac Munezero the Officer in charge Crime Intelligence Katwe police station, George Kayongo, Kenneth Zirintuusa and Patrick Ochen, were arrested at the airport with the victims and detained in Nalufenya.

On Thursday, Wanyoto handed himself over to Central Police Station and was later released on police bond.

He had evaded police summons for a month or so.

Mid this month, Police Professional Standards Unit sent the case file for Bakaleke and six others to the Director of Public Prosecutions for perusal and advice.

PSU spokesperson Vincent Ssekate said the group faced criminal offences and disciplinary offences.
