Speaker Rebecca Kadaga arrives at function in western Uganda

Parliament will spend over Shs7.1m to fix a single flag pole on Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s official car.

Uganda Radio Network [URN] reports that MS Japan Auto Care Limited has been named the best bidder for the requirement under procurement reference Number PT/NCONS/RFQ/17-18/01160.

According to a bidder notice pinned on the Parliament notice board, this was the cheapest company capable of placing the flag pole on Kadaga’s Land Cruiser UG 0257H at such a price.

Chris Obore, the parliament’s Director Communications and Public Affairs, told URN: “That was the lowest bidder, for us… The car we are fixing was supplied by Toyota and we have been using it without a flag pole fixed.”

He added: “At Shs7.1 million, that was the lowest bidder we could get and the procurement law does not allow us to engage any other supplier even when they are offering the service at 100,000 Shillings.”

According to the best evaluated bidder notice dated 9th March 2018 and signed by the Clerk to Parliament Jane Kibirige, MS Vienna Motors Ltd, lost the bid.
