Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) cancelled licences of 23 radio stations for promoting and advertising witchcraft.
According to the regulator, advertising witchcraft has aided scammers who commit electronic fraud.
In February, UCC warned that advertising and promoting witchcraft would see radios lose their licences.
Those affected include; Apex FM, Jinja, Bamboo FM-Jinja, Ssebo FM- Kamuli, Eastern Voice FM-Jinja, Eye FM -Iganga, Victoria FM -Jinja, RFM -Iganga, Kira FM, HITS FM’s two stations in Fortportal and Mbarara, Greater African Radio, Mbarara, Dana FM -Bunyangabu, Gold FM – Kabarole, Metro FM, Tiger FM and Dembe FM in Kampala.
Others are; Nile FM located in Arua, Kagadi Broadcasting Services FM, Emambya FM located in Kibale, Village Club California located in Kiryandongo, Radio Kitara found in Masindi, Pakwach FM, Tropical FM found in Mubende.
Apex FM, Dembe FM, Star FM, Metro FM were earlier summoned for carrying misleading promotions.
According to UCC spokesperson, Pamela Ankunda, the will remain off air until they show cause why they should be allowed to be on air.
