Police has denied reports saying the new police boss IGP Okoth Ochola closed down Nalufenya detention centre.
Located in Jinja district, Nalufenya is infamous for unequalled torture and dehumanisation of Ugandans.
Deputy police spokesperson, SP Patrick Onyango, says the issue of Nalufenya was discussed in the police advisory committee but a decision has not yet been taken.
He says the IGP would have to write to the respective people if such a decision was taken but he has not yet done so.
Legislators have been calling upon government to close Nalufenya for maiming Ugandans through brutal torture.
The facility became notorious last year following the torture of Kamwenge Mayor Geoffrey Byamukama suspected to had taken part in the murder of former police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
