Police spokespersons found themselves in a fix on Tuesday when reports circulated on social media that the new Inspector General of Police, John Martin Okoth Ochola, “hijacked” a twitter account.
The Twitter account in question, according to reports, was formerly owned by Kenya president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Before being sacked by President Museveni recently, former IGP Kale Kayihura, was using a handle designated for the Office of IGP.
It was apparently changed to Kale Kayihura [personal account] after his removal from office.
Police social media handlers then allegedly modified a twitter account formerly used by President Kenyatta and gave it to the new IGP Ochola.
The notorious Twitter bot has been tweeting, retweeting, liking, following, unfollowing etc. several messages including attacking Kenyan politicians.
Speaking on the matter, Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima, said the alleged twitter account for IGP is a fake account.
“IGP Okoth Ochola does not have a twitter account. Treat it with the contempt it deserves,” Kayima explained.
He added: “Our Cybercrime will find the source soon. They are fully notified.”
