Isabirye replaces Kaweesi as Kayihura probes dirty cops

AIGP Haruna Isabirye

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura has appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Haruna Isabirye to fill the position formerly occupied by the late Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

Kayihura appointed Isabirye on Tuesday as the new Director Human Resource Development.

Isabirye has been the Director in charge Welfare and Production.

He has been replaced by the head of Parliamentary Security AIGP Lemmy Twinomugisha.

Kayihura then appointed Anabera Nyiramahoro as the Divisional Commander of the Parliamentary Police.

Luweero clean up

Early in the week, Kayihura sent Police Standards Unit officers to register complaints against Police officers in Luweero district.

Three officers John Byarugaba, ASP Gerald Habimana and ASP Bamulanzeki have pitched camp at Luweero Regional Police Station for the task following a directive by Kayihura.

This follows reports that some police officers were aiding land grabbers while others had received bribes to discontinue cases filed against landlords.

Kayihura also ordered AIGP Asan Kasingye to launch a countrywide community policing strategy which will help to reduce criminality in communities.
