Cheptegei wins another medal for Uganda

Uganda’s long distance runner, Joshua Cheptegei, won the Cross Country race in Seville, Spain on Sunday.

Cheptegei crossed the line in 00:30:54 to win the 36th Cross International de Italica.

The 21-year-old World Championships 10,000m silver medallist was followed by Uganda’s World Cross Country junior champion Jacob Kiplimo (00:30:55), and in 7th place, Joel Ayeko (00:31:48), world champion of mountain races.

Inaugurated in 1982, the race course is set in the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Italica.

It is the fifth leg of this season’s IAAF Cross Country Permit series.

Uganda’s Moses Kipsiro was the 2008 and 2009 winner of Italica.

In August 2017, Cheptegei won Silver in the 10,000m men’s race at the IAAF World Championships 2017 in London.
