Police denies arresting 34 mourners in Lira

Police has dismissed social media rumours claiming it arrested 34 mourners in Lira town who were going for burial of a suspected habitual criminal.

The story attributes the allegations to the North Kyoga region police spokesperson.

Emilian Kayima, Police Spokesperson, said the PRO denied making such claims to the media.

He has clarified that a vehicle carrying mourners was intercepted and four suspected criminals were apprehended, leaving the rest to proceed for burial.

According to the Police in Lira, the four have been on the wanted list of criminals terrorising the area and are currently detained in Lira CPS.

They are Opio Moses, Okwir Denis, Otema Jimmy and Okwir James.

Further note, that burial was in Omoro, Alebtong District but the suspects in question were intercepted in Akia Parish, Adekokwok Sub County, Lira District.

“Further details will be given,” Kayima said.
