Age limit ghost: residents pelt stones on Kagoma MP

Moses Walyomu Muwanika

Angry residents on Sunday nearly lynched Kagoma Constituency Member of Parliament in Jinja District for voting in favour of the age limit bill.

The ugly episode happened at a burial ceremony of a senior female resident, the late Florence Kambudwe.

Moses Walyomu Muwanika attended the event as the area MP on the invitation of Robert Mukama a resident of Kadiba Ward in Buwenge Town Council.

Also present was the former aspirant for the MP seat, Kintu Brandon aka ‘Musayi Mutto’.

According to the report, when Master of Ceremony invited MP Walyomu to address the gathering, Kintu’s supporters broke into protests.

They accused Walyomu of voting ‘Yes’ during the debate on age limit Bill that was passed by Parliament last December.

The bill was later assented to by President Museveni on December 27, 2017.

The angry residents started pelting stones and sticks at the legislators surging forward to teach him a lesson.

Walyomu was forced to cut short his speech and scamper away amid insults and curses.

The MP reportedly hid at his office located on Market Street but when the situation got out of hand, he entered his car and sped off.

Only two MPs; Abdu Katuntu [FDC, Bugweri] and Henry Morris Kibalya [NRM Bugabula) out of 32 legislators from Busoga Sub-region voted against the passing of the age limit bill.
