Uganda Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa on Friday met Rwwanda President Paul Kagame for bilateral talks.
According to Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Louise Mushikiwabo, Kutesa and Kagame talked about the relationship between Uganda and Rwanda.
The two countries have been arresting and detaining each other’s citizens on suspicion of rebel links.
Rwanda security operatives recently featured in illegal repatriation of refugees with the help of Uganda Police Commanders.
Tensions have been strained between Kampala and Uganda for some time now.
Before meeting Kagame, Kutesa also held talks with Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli in Dar es Salaam.
“President Kagame today received my Ugandan counterpart, Sam Kutesa, with a message from President Museveni, a good discussion mainly on integration,” Louise said.
She said President Kagame stressed that for integration to be successful, there has to be something for everybody, all partners must win.
She the two also discussed the state of bilateral relations, including continuing arrests and disappearances of Rwandan citizens in Uganda, causing tension.
Many Rwandan families have been petitioning their government to intervene for their loved ones.
